How do you get a star like Altair to spin at nearly 1% the speed of light?

Altair's observed rotation is about 11 hours, as opposed to Sol's rotational period of about a month. Given that Altair is a larger star than Sol (our sun), how do you impart a rotation on a body that size without destroying it?
