Can anyone give me the meaning of this phrase in this book title "on the block"?

"On the block" refers to street where a person lives. In American cities, the area between one street and the next is referred to as a block, so if I'm walking from 42nd Street to 50th Street, I'd be walking 8 blocks. You might think of as "on the block" as someone's immediate neighborhood.
